Undoubtedly 10, it's the best desktop on Earth today.
And despite all this BS that Winblows fanboys love to spread around here, I am yet to see a PC beating my 2008 iMac in terms of overall performance, UI responsiveness and REAL multitasking capabilities (not the crap that Windows represents).
NONE of my friends and relatives (all of them NORMAL users) has a better-performing machine - so please be careful when reading posts from hobbyists about "building your machine" and the like. No ordinary customer does that or wants to do that.
- The iMac has the BEST screen in the industry;
- The BEST OS in the industry, with the option to run inferior Windows if you want to suffer;
- The BEST AIO design, and none of the bulkiness common to the ugly Windows world;
- The BEST keyboard;
- The BEST standard, multitouch mouse (magic mouse) - just genius;
- Even for an older machine like mine, EXCELLENT overall performance;
- Multitasking responsiveness that is miles ahead of Windows machines (remembering my pathetic PC at work);
- Almost totally silent;
- The best customer service in the world.
Windows PCs nowadays are just for three types of people:
1 - Hardcore gamers who love to brag about irrelevant specs or one extra FPS;
2 - People like the above who need to change their GPU every month or like to tinker with their boxes;
3 - Masochists.
Just buy your iMac and be happy - you're not gonna regret it.

Here are a few things:
1.) Check you color sync profile.
2.) Load in a blank white picture and move it around the screen.
Are there really hot spots.
3.) Load in or create a b/w test 4 square test pattern. Do the same.
4.) Try these resolution test patterns.
SMPTE and BWH test patterns to download. (http://brighamrad.harvard.edu/research/topics/vispercep/tutorial.html)
5.) Are you a smoker, or is the screen in direct sunlight for a time?
Spotty yellowing may occur behind an in front of the screen from smoke and nicotine. Sunlight may damage a screen with UV.
If you find "hot spots" and have AppleCare, give Apple a call.
6.) If your dog does pee on the screen, it should just drip off. If it doesnt, you dog may be diabetic. Glucose in the urine will cause it to stick.

Windows is a typical masturbation operating system that constantly tries to satisfy itself (herself/himself?).
Windows 7 has many background processes that do things, consume CPU cycles and therefore nibble battery capacity.
OS X like most UN*X operating systems is behaving more orderly here.

That's definitely a snail. It's hitched on that bug for a ride. It'll do that with any bug that is big enough to compensate for the the snails weight.

Wow! I've got a couple of empty original iPhone boxes, think I'll fill them with 135g worth of weight and go over and visit my buddy with a shrink wrap machine...

When you say interview, do you mean the recruitment seminar or the interviews after the seminar?

And could this story be the inspiration for a whole series of chicken slasher films?
Ever seen Thankskilling? It's pretty terrible, but it's on netflix streaming.

The new 3.1 interface, while generally nice, takes away the option to change the color of the dock notification. Now I have clashing red starbursts in my Dock (those of NNW and Mail). I really preferred having only Mail red, because I need to see new mail out of the corner of my eye, but who really cares about new RSS items... :mad::rolleyes:

If you're good with your hands and taking things apart, then this will be a VERY easy task. I didn't have problems with heating, as my 15 MacBook Pro shipped with 10.6.7 (heating issues resolved?), but my curiosity got the best of me so I took mine apart... the thermal paste was horrible. I cleaned up the old thermal paste and had my GPU and CPU shining before I applied the OCZ Freeze, which dropped my already cool temperatures even more.
Normal temps are now 110 Fahrenheit (42 Celsius).
I used an acid brush with some rubbing alcohol to make sure that I didn't break the resistors on the GPU.
If you decide to take on the task, good luck AND make sure to disconnect the battery.

Normally I would agree, but since this is a used system, I think he's better off wiping and reinstalling the OS.
Sure. I'll go for that. But the questions was how many times is too much. Sounded like "clean installing, worst case scenario."

the actual window in the room is actually smaller than that, that was the smallest window i could find in the model finder, so there isnt much light from the window, and plus i plan on putting a blackout curtain in front of it anyway.

Holy hell, they are both sold. That has to be the fasted sale in the history of Macrumors.
If you got one, PM me and tell me which case you want. Also, I have a car charger that I will let go for $10.

Hi all, I recently rebooted and have noticed a small blue "bubble" on my screen. It is transparent and turns opaque when you mouse over it. If you click on it, it activates the function usually assigned to the F10 key for Expose. I can move it around the screen like something from Konfabulator. I do have both Konfabulator and Growl installed, but they are both off right now.. and this thing still won't go away. Any help?

Is this why we have a ratings system now?
Skynet took over MacRumors!!:eek:
No, but Skynet did take over Apple. See proof (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/20/researchers-disclose-iphone-and-ipad-location-tracking-privacy-issues/).
I always wondered if Arn let you guys keep all the Spam you delete. :)
We print out all spam posts and keep them in notebooks so arn can review them during our bi-centurial performance evaluations.

That hat is one of the geekiest looking things i have ever seen.
My mom found that picture and sent it to me and laughed at me. Gotta love it.
Well, I still got the pic of Sinbad :p
but i will say... it did work as advertised. Made the picture seem much larger than it was. If you can get over the stigma, it is a great concept. And remember it won't be quite as gnarly when they have it ready for mass production.

I'm learning about the Picker View and was pretty disappointed that the book didn't go beyond basic stuff. I went thru several other books and online as well as the built in Apple help
You talk about "the book". Which book? And who is the author? Also, what were the "other" books?
Not one had an example of putting a pic inside the Picker.
The book was a single column, no example of multi column, or custom widths or loading from array.
See the UICatalog sample app for demonstrations of how to, at least, use images.
Basically I need MUCH more detail, eight book and not one goes into good detail.
Is there any book that REALLY gets under the hood and opens things up?
Of all the programming help/docs/books I read, it's pretty hard to imagine there's not a better book than these.
Most books don't go into the kind of detail I think you seek. They give you the basics and then it's up to you and your cleverness to use those fundamentals to adapt things to your needs.
Amazon's preview thing is pretty worthless, can't get into the meat of the book, the 'contents' doesn't tell you enuff.
They'll give you sample pages from a chapter. Any more and they'd be giving away to real content and some would have no incentive to buy the book, would they?

I agree on the iPhone 4. The iPad is a great device, but if you are in need of a new phone, the iPhone is the way to go. iPhones are fabulous devices, period. The ability to access data on the fly is unbelievable. Having all your contacts and your calendar always with you is an incredible convenience. If I had to choose between an iPhone and an iPad, I would definitely go with the iPhone. I have had one since day one and I cannot imagine life without my iPhone.
